Winter & Ice Emergencies
Ice damming, frozen and burst pipes, roof snow load and freeze-thaw damage, handled through the Ontario winter.
Everything that goes wrong between December and March
Ontario winters put a building through a cycle that finds every weakness: water freezes in a blocked drain, ice dams force meltwater back up under the roof covering, a line in an unheated space splits, and the damage appears during the thaw rather than during the freeze.
We handle the emergency first, then deal with the reason it happened: insulation and ventilation at the eaves, drainage on flat roofs, heat trace where it is warranted, and repairs to the details that let the water in.
What the work includes- Ice dam removal carried out without damaging the roof covering
- Frozen pipe thawing and repair of split lines
- Roof snow load assessment and removal where required
- Clearing frozen roof drains and scuppers
- Water extraction and drying after a thaw event
- Eaves insulation, ventilation and detail repairs
- Preventive work scheduled before the next winter

Winter warning signs
- Large icicles or a ridge of ice along the eaves
- Water staining appearing at the top of interior walls in a thaw
- No water flow at a fixture during a cold snap
- Snow sitting unevenly or deeply on a flat roof
- Drains or scuppers frozen with water backing up behind them
Winter & Ice Emergencies, answered
Yes, with steam and the right technique. Chipping ice off a roof covering causes more damage than the dam does.
Heat escaping into the roof space melts snow, the meltwater refreezes at the cold eave, and the dam forces the next melt back under the covering. It is an insulation and ventilation problem as much as a roofing one.
Yes, and it is far cheaper. Insulation, ventilation, drainage and detail repairs booked before winter beat an emergency call in February.
